COVID guidance for parents

Home learning Offer

If your child does not have access to a device at home, please speak to the office or contact the school on the email below to arrange collection.

Online Learning

Years 1-6 use Class Dojo to provide remote learning in the case of a COVID related absence. Reception uses Tapestry as this is the system parents are familiar with.

Pupils and parents will be familiar with both Tapestry and Class Dojo due to its use in the classrooms. Class teachers have provided all pupils/parents with their log-in details. Parents can contact teachers via the digital platforms or school email if they need extra support.

Within these platforms, work will be differentiated according to the needs of the learners. (These platforms are already being used to set homework and communicate with parents.)

In the event of a period of self-isolation, parents will be able to collect a device which they can keep at home during their child’s period of self- isolation. This device must be returned when the child returns to school.

Paper Based Learning

Paper Based Learning is only available on request and only if online work is not accessible for any reason for the child.


Expectations for Teaching and Learning

Individual pupils self-isolating for up to 10 days

‘use a curriculum sequence that allows access to high-quality online and offline resources and teaching videos and that is linked to the school’s curriculum expectations’ DFE Guidance

Teachers will be required to upload a numeracy and literacy activity each day in addition to work that supports the wider curriculum that is being taught in school.

This work should not be different from what they are doing in class and does not need to be directly taught by the class teacher. For example, links to Oak Academy may be used for modelling purposes.

Feedback- Feedback does not need to be given during the school day, but engagement will need checking at the end of the day.

Submission of work- pupils will be expected to complete the work on the day which it is set unless of course they are unwell.

Teacher workload- A limited period of directed time will be given to teachers during the day to check the work of individuals who are self-isolating. Teachers are not expected to communicate/ give feedback in the evenings or at weekends to children who are isolating.

Level of work set- the activity set for pupils should be a consolidation of work they would have already experienced or should have clear teaching support if introducing new concepts or extensions.

Work for pupils with additional needs

We understand that some pupils, for example pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

  • Paper based work can be requested
  • Pupils with a 1:1 teaching assistant can meet remotely with their pupils to support with work.

Video instruction – teachers can upload short, pre-recorded videos of lessons/ instruction when new concepts are being introduced. The use of Tapestry and Class Dojo conforms to GDPR regulations in terms of data protection and sharing of data.

Access to Tapestry and Class Dojo is restricted to individual users which means families are only able to access their child's accounts while at home
